Hello, JFK Community!
I hope you are doing well. Welcome to School Year 20-21! The school year starts for all Boston Public Schools students remotely on Monday, September 21st. For the last two weeks, teachers at the JFK have been working diligently to prepare for students to engage in Remote Learning. We began our work by reflecting on the lessons we learned from the spring and will continue to leverage those best practices and improve in other areas. At this point, most parents have heard from their classroom teachers about engaging in Remote Learning on Monday, September 21st, 2020. If you have not heard from your student’s teacher at the JFK, please call the school at 617-635-8127 as soon as possible.
In addition to engaging in professional development to strengthen Remote Learning, staff members at the JFK, have also been delving in the work of becoming an anti-racist educator. As a school community, we have been engaging in courageous conversations about race and examining our biases. As we begin the school year in a twin pandemic, we found it necessary to examine our own biases, instructional practices and curricular materials to ensure that all students are well represented in all spaces at the JFK. We also know that as adults if we do not authentically and actively engage in this learning then it’s impossible to effectively educate our students about systemic and structural racism.
We know that this school year will be different but we also see it as an opportunity to be innovative and reimagine schooling in a new way. As we enter this school year, we look forward to partnering with you, we ask for grace, patience and flexibility as we navigate an unprecedented school year.

Hola, familias de la escuela J.F.K.
Espero se encuentren bien. Bienvenidos al año escolar 2020! Este año escolar las escuelas públicas de Boston comenzarán el lunes, 21 de Septiembre de 2020. Por las pasadas dos semanas, los maestros y profesores de la JFK han estado trabajando fuertemente preparándose para comenzar el nuevo año de manera remota (online). Comenzamos el trabajo reflexionando sobre las experiencia del aprendizaje en línea en la primavera del pasado año escolar y continuaremos proveyendo las mejores prácticas de enseñanza que podamos y cada día mejorar en todas las áreas que nos sea posible. En este punto, la mayoría de los padres y encargados han escuchado o se han comunicado con el maestro de su niño (a) sobre el comienzo escolar el próximo lunes, 21 de septiembre de 2020 de manera remota (en línea). Si usted no ha sido contactado (a) por el maestro (a) de su niño(a) favor llamar a la escuela (JFK) al 617-635-8127 lo más pronto posible para proveer la información correcta.
Para los maestros de la JFK estar listos para el nuevo año escolar, han estado tomando talleres profesionales para fortalecer estrategias del aprendizaje en línea, también han estado entrenando para volverse educadores ‘anti-racistas’. Como comunidad escolar, hemos estado teniendo conversaciones profundas sobre razas y examinando nuestras prácticas para evitar la preferencia ó estereotipos. Al comenzar el año escolar en medio de una pandemia encontramos necesario examinar nuestros propios estereotipos, prácticas de instrucción y materiales de currículos para asegurar que todos nuestros estudiantes se encuentran bien reflejados en todos los espacios de la JFK.
También como adultos sabemos que si no somos parte de este nuevo método de enseñanza, será imposible educar a nuestros estudiantes de manera efectiva sobre lo que es el sistema estructural sistemático racista.
Sabemos que este año escolar será diferente, pero también lo vemos como una oportunidad de reinventarse e innovar en lo que es el nuevo sistema escolar.
Al entrar en este nuevo año escolar, esperamos tener su colaboración y trabajar juntos. Pedimos gracia, paciencia y flexibilidad a la vez que navegamos en un año sin precedentes.
